Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has closed to inbound and outbound traffic after a Singapore Airlines cargo freighter was forced to reject a takeoff following a bird strike.
A Singapore Airlines Boeing 747-412F cargo freighter, registered 9V-SFO aborted its take-off at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport following a bird strike.
The aircraft appears to have been well into the takeoff roll when the decision was made to reject the takeoff. The Boeing 747 has reportedly burst 16 tyres as a result and currently remains on the active runway.
Flight operations have currently been temporarily suspended by the Kenya Airports Authority following the incident.
Photos now surfacing on social media show the deflated main tyres of the 747 cargo freighter.
