In the last few moments, a Lufthansa Airbus A340-600 bound for Washington from Munich has diverted to Dublin Airport, Ireland.

D-AIHU, the Airbus A340-642 involved in the diversion, was operating LH414 between Munich and Washington, having departed the German origin at 1706 CEST.

At 1706UTC, the decision was made to turn around and descend into Dublin Airport.

The aircraft was on the ground in less than 30 minutes, highlighting a fast response to the medical emergency itself.

Lufthansa flight LH414 didn’t squawk an emergency code on their way into Dublin, meaning that the issue may not be as serious as anticipated.

D-AIHU is a 15.1-year-old Airbus A340-642 that was delivered to Lufthansa back in May 2008, having originally been bound for Virgin Atlantic Airways.

The aircraft returned to service post-COVID back in May 2022.

According to sources, the aircraft diverted to Dublin Airport due to a sick passenger onboard the flight.

At this stage, it is unclear when the aircraft will depart the Irish airport again to continue its journey onwards to Washington Dulles.

No departure slot has been filed, and probably won’t be for the next hour or two at least, but the expectation is that the Lufthansa A340 will continue onwards to Washington from Dublin.

We shall not be speculating over the kind of sickness that the passenger had and will approach Lufthansa for a comment on the story.
