In the last few moments, an Akasa Air Boeing 737 MAX operating a flight to New Delhi has declared an emergency minutes not long after departure from Pune and has diverted to Mumbai.

UPDATE #1 @ 2006 UK time – Akasa Air flight QP1148, originally bound for New Delhi, looks to be holding at around 3,800 feet to the east of Mumbai.
UPDATE #2 @ 2007 UK time – At this stage, it is unclear what the nature of the emergency is.

UPDATE #3 @ 2009 UK time – QP1148 looks to be on final approach into Mumbai, which appears to be the chosen diversion airport for this emergency.

UPDATE #4 @ 2013 UK time – TOUCHDOWN! Akasa Air flight QP1148 between Pune and New Delhi has appeared to have touched down safely into Mumbai following the emergency broadcast a few moments ago. Standby for the cause in due course.
UPDATE #5 @ 2014 UK time – VT-YAO was the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft that operated today’s flight. As per data from Planespotters, the aircraft is a 4.5 year old airframe that was originally destined for Jet Airways, but was never taken up and handed to the airline in January 2023.

UPDATE #6 @ 2022 UK time – Looking at the ADS-B data from the flight, QP1148 made it as high as FL80 before the climb was stopped and the aircraft proceeded in the direction of Mumbai before making a u-turn, implementing a singular hold and then landing.
UPDATE #7 @ 22/10/23 @ 1440 UK time – Understood that the cause of the Akasa Air emergency from October 20 was due to a bomb threat made.
