Despite its failed merger opportunity with Spirit Airlines caused by JetBlue, Frontier Airlines is performing well as they gear up for the upcoming Summer 2023 season.
Using data from RadarBox.com, we will take a look at Frontier Airlines’ average movement statistics and what the Summer could hold for the carrier.

Frontier Airlines’ Numbers…

For March 26-April 2, Frontier Airlines operated 502 movements, based on a seven-day rolling average provided by the flight tracking company.
This represents an increase of 16.20% compared to the same period last year, where 432 movements were handled.
Below is the last four weeks’ worth of data from the carrier:

What we can see from the data above is that Frontier is continuing to capitalize on its post-COVID recovery observed in 2022.
Ahead of the Summer 2023 season, such figures are expected to climb as more travelers aim to go overseas or visit friends and relatives.
Failed Merger Thanks to JetBlue…
Back in February 2022, it was revealed that Frontier Airlines was going to merge with Spirit Airlines with an aim to form a huge low-cost unit within the United States.
This was interrupted by JetBlue with the carrier making an unsolicited offer for Spirit Airlines in April 2022.
By July 2022, it was confirmed that Spirit Airlines and JetBlue would merge, bringing Frontier Airlines’ aims to a swift end.
Although movement statistic numbers are currently up for Frontier, it does beg the question of where its movement numbers could have gone had JetBlue not swooped in there.
Of course, this would be entering the realm of “what if”, but for now, the carrier does seem to be doing well.
It is now the question of how they will proceed from here.
Looking Ahead to the Summer…
With current movement numbers blowing pre-pandemic levels out of the water, this is something that Frontier Airlines will want to capitalize on as we enter the Summer 2023 season.
New routes, frequency upgrades, and the delivery of more aircraft will help the airline achieve this, especially as the Summer season is the period where revenue capture is vital.
All eyes will be on the airline to see what tricks they may have up their sleeve and whether it will be enough to take the fight to Spirit Airlines but also to JetBlue.
It’s key to note that obviously the Spirit-JetBlue merger hasn’t been formally approved due to continued fighting with the U.S. Department of Justice, but if it does go through, then this will be something Frontier will have to continue fighting on.
If it fails, then it will be the airline’s time to strike once again.
