The Delta Air Lines mega-hub is one of the busiest airports in the world, so it comes as no surprise that it has the largest average daily movements.

As you can see from the image above, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is the largest airport in the world by average daily movements.
The airport handles an average of 2,018 daily movements, which Chicago O’Hare coming in second at 1,895 movements, and Denver third with 1,663 movements.

- 6th – Las Vegas: 1,471 movements.
- 7th – Miami: 1,361 movements.

Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport handled 93.7 million passengers in 2022, which was up from 75.7 million in 2021 and the pandemic low of 42.9 million in 2020.
Hartsfield-Jackson’s Movement Statistics for 2023 So Far…
If we look at the whole of 2023 so far, the airport is definitely making gains but still has a lot to do to catch up to pre-pandemic levels in movement statistics.
For this week, February 26-March 5, the airport handled 2,125 movements, based on a seven-day rolling average provided by the flight tracking company.
This represents an increase of 9.93% from the Atlanta-based airport but is still 386 daily movements short of achieving pre-pandemic levels.

What we can see from the data is that Hartsfield-Jackson Airport has been hovering in the 1,900-2,090 movement figure throughout 2023.
However, as we get closer to the Summer 2023 schedule, we can probably expect these numbers to rise further, especially as more passengers go away for VFR and business travel.
Work To Do: But Still Victorious…
It remains clear that whilst Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport holds the title of the busiest airport in the world by movement statistics, there is still more work to do.
The data shows that an additional 386 flights need to operate out of the airport in order to meet pre-pandemic levels.
However, this will be easily achievable as we are approaching the Summer 2023 season, the busiest period in the aviation calendar.
But for now, all eyes are on the Atlanta-based airport to see how the upcoming Summer season will go.
