Alaska Airlines continues to exceed pre-COVID movement numbers, with this expected to increase further in the Summer 2023 season.
Using data from RadarBox.com, we will see how the airline has performed in 2023 thus far, as well as what the upcoming busy Summer period holds.
Without further ado, let’s get into the numbers…
Alaska Airlines’ Numbers…

[monsterinsights_popular_posts_inline]
For March 19-26, Alaska Airlines handled 999 movements, which is a decrease of 9.26% compared to the same period last year.
However, this figure is still 263 movements ahead of the 2019 pre-COVID figures, so there is still definitive progress that way.
Below is the airline’s performance for 2023 so far:
Date | 2019 Numbers | 2022 Numbers | 2023 Numbers | Percentage Difference (2023 vs. 2022) |
January 1-8 | 679 movements | 929 movements | 1068 movements | +14.96% |
January 8-15 | 667 movements | 976 movements | 1010 movements | +3.48% |
January 15-22 | 688 movements | 948 movements | 1037 movements | +9.39% |
January 22-29 | 683 movements | 946 movements | 1037 movements | +9.62% |
January 29-February 5 | 690 movements | 983 movements | 1042 movements | +6.00% |
February 5-12 | 663 movements | 995 movements | 1059 movements | +6.43% |
February 12-19 | 720 movements | 1007 movements | 1069 movements | +6.16% |
February 19-26 | 757 movements | 1013 movements | 1041 movements | +2.76% |
February 26-March 5 | 760 movements | 990 movements | 1052 movements | +6.26% |
March 5-12 | 765 movements | 1000 movements | 1054 movements | +5.40% |
March 12-19 | 762 movements | 1057 movements | 1003 movements | -5.11% |
What we can see from the data is that the airline has been mainly exceeding pre-COVID levels as well as numbers from last year.
Ahead of the Summer 2023 season, this will remain more consistent for the airline, as forecasted in the data by the flight tracking company.
What Will Summer 2023 Look Like For The Airline?

Summer 2023 looks set to be another period of growth for Alaska Airlines, especially with the airline’s plans in January to hire 3,500 more staff this year.
Here’s a look at the approximate number of new hires for each role the airline will be looking to fill this year:

Alaska Airlines has provided a projected list of role vacancies in the approximate numbers they hope to recruit across the coming year.
From maintenance technicians to contact center agents, flight attendants to pilots, customer service agents to software engineers, the airline has a range of opportunities available to those with a potential interest in aviation.
Most of the new jobs are based at the carrier’s hubs in Seattle and Portland, as well as locations up and down the West Coast.
Benefits like the ability to work from home and flexibility of schedules are also available with some roles.
“It’s an exciting time to join our team, and we’re eager to welcome more great people to Alaska,” said Andy Schneider, senior vice president of people at Alaska Airlines.
“We offer a wide variety of positions, and we pride ourselves on nurturing talent and providing opportunities to learn new skills and move into new, challenging roles. Come join our winning team!”
Overall…

It remains clear that Alaska Airlines continues to rise in terms of movement statistics and, therefore, revenue moving forward.
All eyes will be on the carrier to see how they perform during the Summer 2023 season, as this will be a significant opportunity for further financial capture on a post-COVID basis.
For now, we shall wait and see how they perform.
