After the UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced upgraded infrastructure for the North at his party conference, the UK Govt announced that the Manchester Metrolink would be extended to the Airport.
But it’s already at the airport, and has been since 2014!

Govt Announces Manchester Metrolink to Airport: It’s Already There!…

As mentioned by Dave Burke at The Mirror, the UK Government’s announcement said the following:
“Nearly £4 billion to improve connectivity, which could pay for schemes such as the extension of the Manchester Metrolink to Heywood, Bolton, Wigan and Manchester Airport and bus rapid transit corridors in Manchester.”
As Burke rightly mentions, this extension has already happened in 2014, with the UK Government not clarifying this further at present.
The tram service is utilised at the airport for passengers who don’t drive there, and is about a 5-15 minute walk from the terminals themselves.
This service connects all parts of the city, with there being over 90 stops for such passengers to utilise from the airport and in the city centre too.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced earlier today for context that the Birmingham to Manchester leg of HS2 would be scrapped, and that the £32bn earmarked for that second leg would be placed into the main infrastructure of the railways and public transport, with much of it for the North as well.
