March 31 saw TAP Air Portugal celebrate four years of Dublin flights as the relationship between the airline and airport continues.
The first service into the Irish capital departed on March 31, 2019, using the airline’s Airbus A319 aircraft.
Without further ado, let’s get into it…
Four Successful Years of Flying from Dublin…

Commenting on the anniversary was Ricardo Dinis, TAP Air Portugal’s Country Manager for the UK, Ireland, and Nordics:
“We are very happy to be celebrating four successful years of flying between Lisbon and Dublin and connecting Ireland and Portugal.”
“We have seen demand continue to rise and recover since the pandemic, proving just how popular the
the route has been with leisure and business travelers alike.
“As the summer season approaches, we look forward to welcoming more of our Irish customers
onboard as we continue to connect Ireland with our extensive global network, including destinations
throughout Brazil, Africa, and Europe”.
TAP Air Portugal Is Slowly Reaching Pre-Pandemic Operations…

TAP Air Portugal is slowly reaching pre-pandemic movement numbers, as seen above by flight tracking company RadarBox.

For March 26-April 2, the airline operated 309 movements, based on a seven-day rolling average.
This represents an increase of 10.36% compared to the same period last year but is around 73 movements shy of getting to that all-important 2019 figure.
Below is TAP Air Portugal’s data for the whole of 2023 so far:
Date | 2019 Numbers | 2022 Numbers | 2023 Numbers | Percentage Difference (2023 vs. 2022) |
January 1-8 | 295 movements | 240 movements | 323 movements | +34.58% |
January 8-15 | 308 movements | 229 movements | 316 movements | +37.99% |
January 15-22 | 316 movements | 221 movements | 310 movements | +40.27% |
January 22-29 | 321 movements | 223 movements | 310 movements | +39.01% |
January 29-February 5 | 313 movements | 206 movements | 309 movements | +50.00% |
February 5-12 | 315 movements | 213 movements | 306 movements | +43.66% |
February 12-19 | 320 movements | 223 movements | 304 movements | +36.32% |
February 19-26 | 323 movements | 228 movements | 314 movements | +37.72% |
February 26-March 5 | 322 movements | 234 movements | 309 movements | +32.05% |
March 5-12 | 311 movements | 229 movements | 305 movements | +33.19% |
March 12-19 | 309 movements | 233 movements | 315 movements | +35.19% |
March 19-26 | 320 movements | 244 movements | 306 movements | +25.41% |
What we can see from the data is that TAP Air Portugal has experienced strong double-digit growth in flight movement statistics compared to last year, and in some cases, it is only a matter of a few movements to get to 2019 levels.
Overall…

It remains clear that TAP Air Portugal is performing well and is operating beyond expectations based on the current climate.
The anniversary with Dublin further emphasizes the point on the long-term investments the airline is making in order to operate more flights and also to handle more passengers.
As we begin the Summer 2023 season, all eyes are going to be on the carrier to see how they perform and whether any potential successes would spur encouragement in adding more flights for the Summer 2024 season, which airlines will have to think about soon.
But for now, all eyes are on TAP Air Portugal.
