Irish low-cost carrier (LCC) Ryanair has announced an upscaling in its offering from its main base of operations in Dublin for the upcoming summer 2023 season.

The airline has said it will fly to 130 destinations in 27 countries with 14 of these destinations being new to the list.

The routes in question are as follows:

1. Venice
2. Brindisi
3. Trieste
4. Genoa
5. Kos
6. Zakynthos
7. Asturias
8. Castellon
9. Cluj Napoca
10. Iasi
11. Stockholm
12. Newquay
13. Burgas
14. Leipzig

This expansion in Dublin will boost its total flights per week to more than 2000 during the summer season.

This significant boost in flights, may beg the question to people: “will Dublin be able to cope with the increased passenger and flight traffic?”.

This is mostly because Dublin Airport suffered multiple effective melt downs during Summer 2022 due to a lack of staff and an unexpected major bounce back in demand following the easing of Covid restrictions.

Despite this, the DAA has reassured everyone that the airport will be able to cope with passenger numbers this coming summer.

The airport has said that they hope to have 800 total security staff employed by the beginning of the summer season.

The schedule for these 14 new routes are as follows:

1. Newquay – 6 flights per week
2. Asturias – 4 flights per week
3. Castellon – 4 flights per week
4. Leipzig – 4 flights per week
5. Cluj Napoca – 4 flights per week
6. Iasi – 4 flights per week
7. Stockholm – 6 flights per week
8. Kos – 4 flights per week
9. Zakynthos – 2 flights per week
10. Venice – 14 flights per week
11. Brindisi – 4 flights per week
12. Trieste – 4 flights per week
13. Genoa – 4 flights per week
14. Burgas – 6 flights per week

Overall, Ryanair is going big on these new routes, offering as much capacity as it possibly can.

Flights are now available to book via the Ryanair website and as part of the launch the airline is offering these flights for just 29.99euros until midnight on the 16th March.

Ryanair CEO, Eddie Wilson said this on the launch: “As Ireland’s number one airline, Ryanair is pleased to announce our biggest ever Dublin schedule for Summer ’23 with over 2000 weekly flights to 130 top destinations across 27 new countries.

Expansion fuelled by the MAX

Ryanair have said themselves that the addition of the Boeing 737 “Gamechanger” aircraft, better known as the 737 MAX, is one of the main reasons behind the expansion.

The airline will be boosting its number of MAX aircraft based at Dublin from 11 to 16 for the summer season, which will help them cater for the number of flights being offered.

On top of this, thanks to the expansion for the summer, Ryanair is expecting to carry more than 16million customers this year in total.

With this in mind, it will be interesting to see if Dublin airport will be able to cope with the increased flights and passenger numbers compared to last year, and whether Dublin will experience the same meltdowns as it did in 2022.
