LOT Polish Airlines Boeing 787 Enroute to Turkey

LONDON – A LOT Polish Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner is enroute to Turkey with firefighters and equipment onboard to help recovery efforts.

Turkey has suffered a 7.8 magnitude earthquake today that struck the South East region of the country and Syria, causing severe loss of life and structural damage.

Updated death counts at this present time are over 3,000 people.

It is possibly the largest earthquake ever recorded in Turkey, with a similar magnitude 7.8 event previously recorded in December 1939 in the North East region of the country, according to seismologist Stephen Hicks.

Just looking at the distribution of magnitude 7 and greater quakes since instrumental records began (~1900), today's M7.8 event is by far the largest quake ever recorded in this region.

As per data from RadarBox.com, the aircraft carrying the firefighters and equipment to Turkey is SP-LRB, one of LOT Polish Airlines’ Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

Under flight number LO7273, the aircraft is expected to land at Gaziantep Airport in two hours’ time at the time of writing.

International efforts are underway to supply as much equipment and personnel to assist in recovery efforts for those potentially trapped in buildings and other infrastructure caused by the earthquake.

Some airports have been damaged as a result of the earthquake, with Hatay Airport suffering massive damage to its runway and other parts of its infrastructure.
