Additionally, the announcement of Atlanta, Georgia, as a forthcoming non-stop destination with WestJet in 2024 furthered YEG’s drive towards expanding its global profile.

Ready for Green Shipping

The International Cargo Hub expansion at YEG is set to be anchored by a formidable 112 MW solar farm, supported by the Government of Canada with up to $100 million in funding.

Edmonton International Airport (YEG) is set to undergo a significant infrastructure transformation, with crucial upgrades planned.

The Departures Roadway on Level Two becomes inaccessible commencing on September 26. These enhancements will temporarily close the elevated roadway and necessitate changes in passenger pick-up and drop-off locations.

The Construction Impact

During the construction period, the Departures Roadway adjacent to the terminal will be temporarily inaccessible to all traffic.

Additionally, the lower-level Arrivals Roadway will be limited to commercial vehicles and passengers requiring accessible access. As a result, passengers and visitors will need to adapt to these changes.

Relocated Passenger Pick-up & Drop-off Area

To accommodate passengers, a new Passenger Pick-up & Drop-off Area has been designated east of the Easy Parkade. This location will serve as the new hub for arriving and departing passengers. Additionally, a Park & Wait Area is now available for those awaiting arriving passengers.

Passengers using the relocated Passenger Pick-up & Drop-off Area should prepare for a 5-10 minute walk to and from the terminal.

During the winter months, from November to April, seasonal shuttle service and heated shelters will be provided for added convenience.

The improvements are extensive, and as a result, the closure will extend into 2024. The construction will be managed by Edmonton-based PCL Construction, with engineering oversight by RJC.

This pioneering effort aims to provide translated materials to Canadian newcomers, specifically focusing on their rights in Alberta.

By offering multilingual resources through QR code stickers in English, French, Spanish, Punjabi, Chinese, and Tagalog, YEG is ensuring that all individuals passing through the airport have access to essential information.

The initiative also extends to YEG’s transportation partners, making it a comprehensive effort to combat human trafficking.

A commitment to safety

“YEG has always been committed to enhancing safety measures for everyone traveling through its facilities. Acknowledging the growing prevalence of human trafficking in communities, the airport recognizes the importance of its role in preventing such heinous crimes,”

Since 2021, YEG has been working in partnership with ACT Alberta to offer specialized human trafficking awareness training.

This training has been made available to personnel from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), airport security, and leadership staff.

Due to the resounding success and high attendance of the “Human Trafficking Airport Training” organized by YEG, ACT Alberta, and YEG are now expanding their efforts.

The focus is on providing this collaborative learning to all new airport staff at every point of contact and conducting annual refresher sessions. To date, close to 2,000 airport workers have completed this essential training program.

Empowering through Translated Materials

ACT Alberta’s translated materials play a crucial role in empowering potential victims of human trafficking.

Among these resources are documents covering topics such as Temporary Foreign Workers’ Rights in Alberta, Understanding Human Trafficking, Labor Trafficking Awareness, and Sex Trafficking Awareness.

Kate Price, the Executive Director of ACT Alberta, emphasizes that language is often a significant barrier for survivors in understanding their rights and assessing their situations.

Through this partnership with YEG, individuals gain access to vital information in their native languages, enabling them to recognize the signs of trafficking and assert their rights more effectively.

The importance of these translated materials cannot be understated, as they help protect potential victims from falling prey to traffickers’ deceptive tactics.

Traffickers often provide false information about their victims’ legal rights and the requirements for working in Canada. By knowing that Canadian law protects all workers, potential victims are better equipped to resist coercion and exploitation.

This knowledge becomes a formidable tool in the ongoing battle against human trafficking within the country.

Condor Airlines’ latest widebody Airbus A330neo has touched down at Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) just in time for the peak summer season.

This eye-catching aircraft, adorned with Condor’s signature stripes, marks a new chapter in sustainable travel between Halifax and Europe.

Passengers can look forward to four non-stop flights a week to Condor’s Frankfurt hub (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday). These flights offer convenient connections to over 100 destinations across Europe and beyond.

A330neo Configuration

The A330neo represents a significant upgrade from the previous generation Boeing 767s. This next-generation aircraft boasts increased passenger and cargo capacity.

Condor’s A330neo will offer unrivalled inflight passenger comfort and will accommodate 310 passengers. It is configured with 30 seats in Business, 64 seats in Premium Economy and 216 seats in Economy class.

The new Condor Business Class offers 30, lie-flat (180-degree) seats in a 1-2-1 configuration with direct aisle access for all guests.

The seat conveniently converts to a 76-inch long by 19-inch wide bed. Business Class guests have access to the latest movies, series, podcasts, and games. These are all accessible on a 17.3-inch screen in 4K mode, with touchscreen and remote control.

In Premium Economy Class, guests enjoy more personal space thanks to a generous extra seat pitch of 35 inches and a greater backrest angle of up to six inches.

In addition, the multi-adjustable headrest and footrest at every seat ensure a significantly more comfortable flight experience.

The move to the new A330neo allows Condor to cater to the growing demand between Nova Scotia and Europe.

A330neo: Sustainable Quieter Operations

The A330neo is a champion of eco-friendly travel, equipped with cutting-edge Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, new wings, and innovative aerodynamics. It effectively reduces Condor’s fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by an impressive 20%.

Here’s what that translates to: the A330neo consumes a mere half-gallon of fuel per passenger for every 62 miles flown, making it a leader in fuel efficiency.

This innovative aircraft is already certified to meet the stricter CO2 emission regulations coming into effect in 2028, minimizing travelers’ environmental footprint.

The A330neo also features state-of-the-art flight and navigation systems, allowing for optimized approach and departure procedures.

This translates to quieter operations, reducing noise pollution by up to 60%, even at high-altitude airports.

Strengthening a Longstanding Partnership

The arrival of the A330neo marks a significant milestone in the two-decade-long partnership between Condor and Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

Condor will be operating from a total of 18 North American cities to Frankfurt this summer, with Halifax being one of them. Five of these cities are in Canada: Toronto (YYZ), Vancouver (YVR), Calgary (YYC), and Edmonton (YEG).

From September 18th to 22nd, YLW actively participated in a series of engaging presentations and discussions encompassing a wide spectrum of safety themes.

These sessions covered topics like airside safety, worker safety, security safety, hazard reporting, psychological safety, environmental safety, foreign object debris (FOD), and the impactful #NotInMyCity Campaign.

The primary goal of these sessions was to educate and engage airport staff on various safety aspects vital to their roles.

The FOD Walk – A Highlight of the Week

One of the standout events of the week was the FOD walk. During this activity, airport staff walked the apron, meticulously identifying and removing any debris that could potentially pose safety risks to both aircraft and personnel.

Throughout the operational day, airport staff routinely conduct multiple FOD checks to ensure that the runways and aprons remain clear, thus mitigating any risks for arriving and departing aircraft.

A Shared Responsibility

Safety within the aviation industry is a shared responsibility. Canadian Airports Safety Week serves as an opportunity for delegates of Canadian airports to share ideas in order to create and maintain a safe and secure environment for all stakeholders.
